Memorial Day

We have lived in Kentucky for about 3 years now and I think I can say that I am enjoying most of it. But sometimes, I really hate the holidays. Growing up, holidays were always family days and we would spend them with my grandparents and cousins. Memorial day is close to my dad's birthday so often we would celebrate. We would often BBQ or go swimming. But out here, it's just not the same. I get a bit misty eyed when I drive past homes with a dozen cars parked in front. I guess I'm just really lucky because I have so many happy memories of spending the holidays with family and loved ones. I'm also lucky to have a really great family (inlaws included) that I love to spend time with.

But since we are here, I'm trying to make the most of it and starting our own little traditions as a family. Memorial Day we woke up and just had that feeling of "what do we do now." The weekend kind of snuck up on us, so we hadn't made any plans with friends and didn't really have any place to go. Sam wanted to use his new water guns that he received for his birthday, so the kids put on their swimsuits and had a water fight. Nate loved the water fight the most. He would get in the line of fire and just stand there. He never cried once. It ended up being a very nice afternoon. Afterwards we came inside, just as it began to rain and had a picnic in front of the TV and watched a movie together.

Sad. Wish we could've hung out with y'all that day. Looks like the kids had a blast though! Not too much longer until we can at least do road trips for the holidays, right?!

Looks like you guys had a blast. I can't even remember what we did for Memorial Day. You know us though, uncommital for future plans, and never organized enough to really plan ahead, so ALWAYS call us and see what we're up to, even last minute. We always love hanging out with you guys, you're the best!
