Extreme Makeover

So I admit it, last summer I begged & pleaded & begged some more to get Ashley & my mom to travel to Kentucky with me - but I had more than one selfish motive. See, when I was little, my grandfather made this dollhouse for me. This doll house was a monumental part of my childhood. If I could find 1 object to represent my childhood, this would be it. I've had to pull a few tricks to convince my parents to keep it for me in their basement all these years, so this summer I had to pull a trick or two to move it to Kentucky. This dollhouse is pretty big and it wouldn't fit in my car, I know because I tried. But it did fit in my mom's Suburban - if you see what I'm getting at... It was very convenient for me that she was willing to transport it in her vehicle during our little summer excursion. Actually I've told her thank you many, many times and secretly I think my dad was more than willing to encourage my mom to take that cross country trip when he realized it meant he could finally get rid of the doll house.

When it finally arrived in Kentucky, the doll house was in sad shape. Most of the wall paper was warped or coming off and some of the wood had come unglued. So I spent a few weeks remodeling. A little glue, a few nails, new paint, wall paper, curtains, and all the original 1980's furniture. It was finished, just in time for Liv's 7th birthday.

Happy Birthday Sweetcakes!

That's huge! Great job. I had a friend of mine remodel my old dollhouse which was also my mom's old doll house (built in 1957). He did an amazing job and now I can keep it forever-- though everyone told me to just throw it away!

I can't believe she's 7! I still remember her melting my heart when she said "mo' apples peas!" I would have given her anything when she said that! She was adorable then and now!
